Our Story: Forged in the Storm

My name is Dustin Miller, and I am the founder of Through the Storm Designs.

At Through the Storm Designs, we don't just sell apparel; we share a philosophy forged in the high-stakes reality of survival.

Like many, I've endured periods where the world felt like a relentless tempest. In search of a symbol that truly embodied resilience, I found my inspiration in an ancient, magnificent truth of the American West: the bison.

We are a family-owned business rooted in the Bison Principle: while other animals run from the storm—only to be chased by it—the bison turns to face the wind and charges. By meeting the chaos head-on, they minimize their time in the struggle and emerge stronger and are able to relish on the peace on the other side of the chaos..

This powerful act became my personal mantra. It transformed my perspective: Adversity is not meant to be avoided; it is meant to be conquered by moving through it.

Through the Storm Designs was born from this revelation. It is my mission to translate this fierce, ancient wisdom—along with other timeless lessons of resilience, faith, and growth—into art that doesn't just decorate a space, but fortifies a soul. Every design is a commitment to the belief that the greatest strength is found in the courage to walk into the wind and emerge stronger on the other side.

A Life Defined by the Charge

This isn't a marketing slogan for me; it is how I am still standing today. My journey with this principle began long before I wore a uniform. As a high school student, I faced the darkest storm of my life during a suicide attempt. I learned then that you cannot survive the darkness alone—I am only here because of the strength of my "herd."

Since then, I’ve had to choose the "charge" over and over again. I walked away from a stable career as an aircraft mechanic to pursue nursing, only to face a life-threatening storm during my junior year of college in 2020. My heart stopped multiple times, leading to the placement of a pacemaker.

Through every recovery and every career shift, the lesson remained: The only way out is through.

Today, I serve my community as a Nurse and a Volunteer Fire Chief. My wife also serves in the healthcare field, performing mammograms and helping women navigate their own uncertain horizons. Together with our two children, we run this business to provide a "uniform" for the resilient.

If there is one thing I learned from that dark time in high school, it’s this: The most dangerous lie the storm tells you is that you have to face it by yourself.

In the wild, a lone bison is vulnerable. But a herd? A herd is an unstoppable force.
